"Oh no it looks like Cutter's bought it!" If this statement makes sense to you, you've come to the right place.
The planes in the strip are Blakburn SKUAS, a dive bomber operated by the Royal Navy during WW2. I suppose the intended implication is that 'Johnny Kraut' assumes that all dive bombers are Stukas & hence refers to them as such.... the similarity between the names doesn't help much tho, admittedly.

I'm fighting the urge to look this up...but isn't the Skua a seabird? Hence the nice tie in with the name and the Royal Navy.
