The Laboratoire d'Histoire Visuelle Contemporaine has completed a preliminary paper on War comics and the Fallen Soldier Battle Cross .The article is in French but don't let that put you off. If your French is a little rusty, as mine is, there's always Google translate. However there's still plenty to look at with a number of scans of comic book covers and inside panels.
I can't get over the difference in cover art and attitude between British war comics and the one shown here.
I'll have to have a look through my collection to see if I can find an equivalent cover in a War Picture Library.
Back to the French...yours truly is excited (and a little bit proud) to have received acknowledgment for my contribution to the project.
