Tiger Tank Profile Number 1

These fine examples of Tiger tanks come from War Picture Library 21 Airborne (published by AP publishing). Sometimes when vehicles turn up in pocket war comics they tend to be more of an idea of what a tank should look like.

However who ever had the task of illustrating this particular issue had the benefit of some good research materials at his disposal or had the opportunity to see a tank first hand.

I'm not an expert in this area but they look pretty good to me. Those who know more could no doubt point out the flaws and I am always happy to learn more about this kind of thing. Even though I think the Tiger in the drawing of the crew rushing to take on der British para-trupen looks a little large.

I intend to publish more pictures of specific vehicles and aircraft as I come across them in my collection of British war comics.

If anybody has anything specific they would like me to profile I am only too happy to oblige.

You can feel the angst. Old mate's not getting up from this one. Rare to see blood as well.

That tank behind them is in a bit of strife as well.

War Picture Library 109 Claws of the Tiger says so much and it does it with a minimum of fuss. Even though to my eyes the two figures in the forefront may have been created either by a different artist or in a different medium (can anybody help me out here?) It really doesn't matter. This is a sterling effort.

I like the way that the artist wasn't compelled or directed to keep the image going to the edges of the original canvas. It doesn't need to. Everything the cover needs to say is right there.

Again, even though simple, the bold red of the title really works with the image. Thank goodness there's no annoying flash tag line spelling out what you should already know from the images. Right on the money. Only a 10/10 will do.

You know it's a top issue when you can't stop using "top" as a superlative. In some circles Sir Bobby Charlton is still the absolute soccer superstar and if he was in the midst of his then stellar career now - he would be earning an absolute motza, living in L.A., be the target of the paparazzi, and have every moment of his personal and professional life under close scrutiny for all of us to enjoy...

Just like Bobby, Roy of the Rovers is still kicking around and judging from his website he's decidedly beefed up to take on the 21st Century.

I understand that all that top work by Roy in Tiger allowed him to eventually spin out into his own publication.
