I think they were written/illustrated by people who had a closer experience of war. As Europeans they had seen first hand the effects of nationalism and patriotism. The British comics are interested in individuals and how they relate to their peers. Also the publishers were practised at these type of stories - the oldest comic I have is a Thriller Picture Library from 1956 called To Victory with the Iron Duke (issue 102) and the first War Picture Library is published in 1958. <br />Those are my quick thoughts on why I think the British ones are better.Jovanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16130432846436798472noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8910483009299901710.post-51992344668359101102018-11-08T06:42:56.001+10:002018-11-08T06:42:56.001+10:00Jovan, don't know where else I can make a comm...Jovan, don't know where else I can make a comment so I've come here, although it doesn't refer to the post. From about 12 to 14 I read scores of war picture comics, a shilling each. Why were the American ones so inferior to ours. The artwork was poor and the stories ridiculous. Often Korean war red-baiting or introducing things like German aircraft carriers when none saw service. Can't remember the titles but very poor.John Porterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11107608406089540887noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8910483009299901710.post-53273732637967987722018-11-07T04:45:04.306+10:002018-11-07T04:45:04.306+10:00CheersCheersJohn Porterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11107608406089540887noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8910483009299901710.post-28312214813775840652018-11-06T16:22:45.526+10:002018-11-06T16:22:45.526+10:00Once I originally commented I clicked the -Notify ...Once I originally commented I clicked the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and now every time a comment is added I get four emails with the identical comment. There was another one, could have been War Picture Libraey or Air Ace, where a pilot/skipper was considered a jinx. His Lancaster crew were picked off one by one until only he survived. Years later he found the Lanc in a scrapyard with its identification switch (?) left on, proving he wasn't at fault.John Porterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11107608406089540887noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8910483009299901710.post-73311029834401153002018-11-05T05:02:43.933+10:002018-11-05T05:02:43.933+10:00Hope HMG compensated them!Hope HMG compensated them!John Porterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11107608406089540887noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8910483009299901710.post-27610041679872433422018-11-02T11:17:09.490+10:002018-11-02T11:17:09.490+10:00I had a quick look, by pulling out covers with swo...I had a quick look, by pulling out covers with swordfish, and couldn't find this one amongst my collection.
